Rye, like the alcohol, can be a bit spicier grain to use. It is often used in combination with other grains, such as 90% corn, 10% rye.
True rye however is made from at least 51% rye grain, most often even more. Nothing says you can't use 100% rye too, although some of that should be in the form of malt, to ensure proper enzymes to convert starch to sugar.

When you buy rye, be sure it is untreated. As with other grain, seed grain is often treated. Buy untreated rye, cracked or rolled rye.
